Google Play Closed Testing Checklist: 15 Steps Before You Submit for Production

By TestLaunch Pro  ·  April 2026  ·  5 min read

Most production access rejections come from missing something that was easy to check before submitting. This checklist covers every requirement Google looks at — run through it before you request production access and you will not get rejected for a preventable reason.

Testing Track Requirements

1Confirm you are using the closed testing track — not internal testing

Internal testing does not count toward production access. Go to Testing and verify your testers are in the Closed testing track.

2Verify at least 12 testers show as opted in

Added to the list is not enough. Each tester must have clicked the opt-in URL and installed the app. Check the opt-in status column for each tester.

3Confirm 14 consecutive days have passed

The 14-day clock starts when your 12th tester becomes active. Check your testing statistics in Play Console to see the current day count.

4Check that tester count never dropped below 12 during the period

If the active count fell below 12 at any point, the clock reset. You will need to run another 14-day period.

Store Listing Requirements

5App icon uploaded (512x512 PNG, no alpha/transparency)

Round corners are added by Google — do not add them yourself. Solid background required.

6Feature graphic uploaded (1024x500 JPG or PNG)

Required for all apps. This appears at the top of your Play Store listing. Do not leave it blank.

7At least 2 phone screenshots added

Screenshots must show real app screens, not marketing graphics. Minimum 320px on shortest side, maximum 3840px on longest side.

8Short description written (under 80 characters)

This appears in search results. Make it clear and specific — avoid vague phrases like "the best app."

9Full description written (under 4000 characters)

Explain what the app does clearly. Do not make unverifiable claims. Do not copy descriptions from other apps.

Policy and Compliance Requirements

10Privacy policy URL added and working

Must be a live URL — not a PDF, not a Google Doc. Must be publicly accessible without login. Must mention what data the app collects.

11Content rating questionnaire completed

Go to Policy, App content, Content rating. Complete the IARC questionnaire. You will receive a rating immediately.

12Target audience set correctly

Go to Policy, App content, Target audience. If your app is not for children, select the appropriate adult age range.

13Data safety section completed

Required since 2022. Go to Policy, App content, Data safety. Answer every question honestly about what data your app collects and how it is used.

Final Checks

14App category selected

Select the most accurate category for your app. Miscategorized apps can be rejected or removed after approval.

15Publishing overview shows no outstanding issues

Before submitting, check Publishing overview for any warnings or issues flagged by Google. Resolve all of them before requesting production access.
